University College London: UCAT score& entry requirements

UCL is a large, prestigious London medical school with a six-year MBBS that includes an integrated BSc. It sets a high academic bar and then uses the overall UCAT to rank applicants for interview — so you need both the grades and a competitive score.

In short
  • After meeting a high academic bar, UCL ranks applicants by overall UCAT to select for interview (the SJT breaks ties).
  • Standard offer is A*AA including A*A in Chemistry and Biology; A-level resits generally aren't accepted.
  • Roughly 2100+ on today's scale is a competitive Home guide, with a lower Access UCL line for eligible applicants.
  • Selection is by MMI (up to eight stations); the course is a six-year MBBS with an integrated BSc.

How UCL uses the UCAT

UCL's academic bar is high — A*AA with A*A in Chemistry and Biology — and once you clear it, your overall UCAT is used to rank applicants for interview, with the SJT as a tiebreaker. As a rough current-scale guide, competitive Home applicants are around 2100+, with a lower line (around 1950+) for eligible Access UCL contextual applicants; overseas applicants need more. These are guides, not guarantees — the real line depends on the year's pool.

Is your score competitive here?

UCL needs both: top grades and a competitive UCAT. If you have the A*AA profile and an above-average score, it's a strong target. If your grades are borderline, the high academic bar is the bigger risk here, not the UCAT. Check your percentile, and if you're contextual, look at the Access UCL route.

  • As with all London schools, cost of living is the main downside students mention.
